Pat:
Maybe they just wanted to paint it white. Like your pal, Johnnny2006, said to you the other day: "Don't let anyone tell you what to do.", when you blessed out don g, they probably wanted their tractor to be white and did not let anyone tell them what to do....?

Well, a white tractor in a sea of red would certainly stand out. Maybe they didn't know, or didn't care about the specifics, and use it as a conversation piece. I saw an H on Ebay not too long ago being sold as an "ex-demonstrator" because it had some white paint underneath it.
One thing to consider: IH pushed tractor repainting a lot. And from what I understand, if you took a 40's H in, they may paint it to look more modern and fresh. On one H I saw, it had white paint added in several spots to make it look newer (at the time)

Here is another one like that:

If you are referring to a "white demo" H tractor, IH did not make white demo H's, only the smaller letter series Farmalls and the Cub where white demos that I know of.

You are correct. From what I read in Guy Fay's book, IH was pushing smaller tractors at a mid-century point because farmers were leaning towards bigger machines. So the M and H didn't need the help.
