I recently tried to date my stepfather's Farmall H. The serial number is 26089J. This number places the tractor as a 1940, but he distinctly remembers buying the tractor BRAND NEW in 1954. Can anyone tell me how this confusion my have been caused. Perhaps the "J" in the serial number changes something, does anyone know what the "J" means. Thanks in advance for anyone with usefull information.

I think my friend that you are taking this tractor thing way too seriously. To make this complex love triangle more complicated, as it happens, it is your step father's tractor. Time to step back and put things in perspective.

If after a period of reflection your amorous attentions find you still prefer the tractor, then what you do is your business, but remember--this is a family board.

I suspect by it having a Rockford clutch it is a 1954 Super H instead of an H. It shopuld have disk brakes and live hydraulics on it as well as the battery box and under the seat. Itwould also have the IH logo on the grill instead of the Farmall logo.

George: I agree with you. Chances are 99% it is a Super H, which would put it right at 1954. Besides, have you ever seen a SH that didn't have a Rockford clutch? mike

No I haven't, I also don't think the Rockford clutch was available in them in 40

Pardon me, but this sounds a little incestuous. Will you be taking the H to the drive-in movie?

I think "J" stands for Rockford clutch.
