If it has an I-4 engine the engine serial number (on the right-hand side of block, below number 1 (front) spark plug)) should start with IBHM followed by 3 to 5 digit number. They do not match tractor number but should not be too, too different. My 1941 W-4 is missing the W from both model number and tractor serial number but does have the W on the engine number. Tractor model 4, serial BH 2381, Engine WBHM 2133

If your I-4 still has the spring loaded pintle hook, Harold H and myself would appreciate your taking some measurements on the lower arms (struts). Specifically the following measurements:

dimension of bar stock

bolt diameter where bar attaches to pintle receiving casting

overall length from end of bar to end of welded pipe section (hinge).

Now to your question. Bore size was increased when the Super H was built. You have a later tractor or motor. Bore on that same basic motor was increased again when the 350 was built. Send us the serial number of the tractor and also look for cast numbers on the block above the oil filter. The number should begin with a C.

Dennis,

Your I-4 is a 1947, the same year as the one I am restoring. Nebraska test was 27.89 belt horsepower and 25.67 drawbar horsepower. It has the same 152.1 cubic inch engine as the H. Red was the standard color. Highway orange was a no cost factory option color. IHC would paint the I-4 any other color the customer wanted. I have debated between red an orange for mine but have decided to go with the orange color. Does you tractor have a pintle hitch? Mine has a homemade regular drawbar but I am in the process of locating a pintle hitch fo it.

The I-4 is the industrial W-4 and they were the standard version of the H.

If your tractor is a 47 it came factory with a 152. It could have had the 164 put in it. This is a Super series engine and will fit your your tractor.

If you don't have the 152.1 your engine has been upgraded.

There is little difference in appearance of the the H and Super H--up engines. Main outward sign is that it has a bigger carb. The 152 does not have a size designation on it, later models do, Super H C164; 300 C169; 350 C175, the numbers should be cast in the right rear side of the block. If not it originally was a 152, hard telling what has been done to it though.
