In the early 80's I purchased a F-30 from my neighbor, who had bought it new. After using it that summer I decided to restore it that winter. The sides and bottom were a combination of years of oil and dust and hard as a rock. After trying several methods I tried oven cleaner, it semed to work well.Spring came and I gave it a coat of 2 part primer then a couple coats of Centari, turned out real well,About six months later I was cleaning it up with my cheap pressure washer and baseball size sheets of paint and primer lifted from the cast parts, I had the Dupont rep stop by to see why everything lifted. found out the oven cleaner was still leaching out of the cast.Last time I used oven cleaner,

Is it possible that all the cleaner wasnt removed from your metal prior to painting? I know i have to power wash an area 3 or 4 times till the sudsing stops.

Great stuff, ain't it?! Good as it is, I've got a coupla wheel weights for my BN. Not oven cleaner, not Black Beauty, not nothin'll get the bottom layers of IH red off'n 'em. I thought about glass and aluminum oxide, but they ARE just wheel weights. I think a sealer and some urethane and I'll quit worryin' about it.

;8^)

brake cleaner works good too but dollar general oven cleaner is only 1 dollar a can and seems to penetrate much better than anything else .
