Were the original front Farmall emblems made of forged steel? The new ones I see on Ebay are pressed aluminum. Is that all that's available anymore?

Those emblems have always been made of aluminum except for about 2 or 3 years during WW2 when aluminum was in short supply, and then the emblems were made of stamped steel. I don't there were ever any forged emblems. The same tractors that had a steel emblem could possibly also have a steel shift knob instead of rubber.

Sounds like my '44 should have a steel emblem. I don't know what's on it, but I'll be checking when I get it. If it needs a steel, I'll check with you and see if you have any for sale.

I would say '41, '42, and '43, but I'm not real sure that there were any tractors built in 1942. The most likely candidates for the steel emblems I think are the '43s.

In case you aren't using Modern View, I put up my e-mail in classic view. Please e-mail me and let me know if you have a steel emblem. I'll let you know if I need one ASAP.

Thanks!

We weren't in the war until '42. I would guess '42, '43, and '44... maybe some '45, because I have seen some '45 with the steel knob.

No doubt that you have, but parts do interchange, and the steel knob on a '45 may or may not have been original.

Hi, Mike:
I think I know where you're headed with this good question; I believe pressed aluminum would be original and correct for an H. I have a decent used one I will give to you if you want it. It is not perfect, but not bad either. mike durhan

By the way, have you tried to fire that H up yet? We want a status report.

The owner had to go north on a trip. He said he should be able to get together in two weeks... which leaves 1 week to go.

Easiest way you will know I have it is because of the flood of questions I'll be having on what to check for and how to do things.

Just so you know, one of the first things I'll be doing is trying to salvage teh orginal fuel tank. In fact, I'll ask a question about that today to start thinking about things I need.

Yeah, Mike. We want action! Fire that mother up! We don't care 'bout no stinkin' emblems! (There's an old saying down South: "The fenders don't make the wheels turn.") Now, get out there and get to work on that thing.
