I went through the trans on the M and after I got done replaceing all of the bearings, seals and gaskets I went to go drive it and it pops out of 5th gear. Do I have a bent fork or did the gear finally give up, it had some wear on all of the gears but not that much, I thought?
Please help I"m tired of driving in 4th....haha
Thanks.

Did you replace the pilot bearing on the end of the sliding gear shaft? It may let the end of the shaft wobble just enough to "shuck off" the gear. There is supposed to be detent balls on the botom side of the top plate where the sliders go. That might be worth looking at, but you have to pull the top back off.

you will more then likley need a new gear. Could be a bent fork. does it grind befor it pops out. We had a H that we needed to put a bungie cord on to "hold" it in 5th. Eventually it would just grind, and would not move in fifrh. We just used 4th til the day the music stopped. then the starter would grind too. It was a 39 i wish now i would of talked dad into keeping it. but it was shot, had a loader on it most its life. Cleaned alot of cow yards. then it started to miss and foul the hottest plugs. so we just parked it. it was at the end of her life. my dad gave it away I know the serial number was a 4 didgit number. i belive it started with a 4. if i was you i would fix it unless you wanna part it out and buy a diffrent one. I dont like parting out farmalls but if you do it just makes the ones left that much more rare. keep it and fix it.
