I picked up a 1066 last week with a bad motor and would like to swap out the 414 for a 530 or at least a 466. Thing is I am not sure if it will fit and if the hoods will go back on. We have the tractor in our shop now and are going through it one end to the other. Any info on the would be greatly welcome. Thanks. Gary

ejr: It's a later version of the 466, used in Navistar trucks. I know bore was increased and not sure about stroke, it may have been increased as well. I saw the specs on this engine in about a 2002 truck.

I had driven the truck, even pulled a 53' refer trailer with a modest load. I thought to myself, this looks like a 466, but just a bit too gutsey for a 466. When I returned it to the rental company, I asked their shop foreman, and he confirmed my suspicion, beefed up 466. He showed me spec at the time, but I've forgotten the details.

Gary, all three engines share the same block. The only differences are the crankshaft and the lengths of the connecting rods. As KB says, you will need to transplant some tractor-specific parts off the 414.

Either will work fine, since you've got the original engine to swap parts off of. You'll definetly need the front and rear engine plates off of the tractor engine, and you may need the oil pan, manifolds, and turbo as well. Your 414 could be built bigger, but I think I'd look for at least a C series block and get away from that A series.
