Hello I torn down my behelen p/w steering unit to reseal it. I installed new shim with the correct size, new orings, gasket and dust seal. Now little power to left but no power to right. I took it back off and it seems like the cam/ valve mech. is able to shift for the left turn flow but doesn't feel like when turn right that the valve travels far enough direct hydraulic power. I didn't have the cam/ valve asy. apart. It was one finger steering before I went to reseal it. any help would be appreciated. thanks Trent

I checked some posts in the archives. On 1-24-01, Roger states that the shim adjustments are critical. If not correct it will be hard to turn one way.

The adjustment of these are critical. Send me an email and I will send you pics of the Blue Ribbon Service manual, which has all the info you will need to fix your unit.

George, I am leaving for the weekend, I would be interested in that info also. May I contact you next week about it?

Did you mark the gears so that you could re-install them exactly the way they were prior to disassembly? As critical as their alignment is you would think they would be marked like the timing gears are.

to be honest no I didn't. I seen it was a drive gear and a idler so I figure it didn't need to be. I will definitly recheck that this evening. I also used one regular gasket(not shims side) As there was only 1 in previously. I'm thinking maybe I need to try 2. =.030 It says in the it manual that the gasket thickness determines the alignment of the cam/valve body.? not real sure what to do. thanks

If you type Behlen power steering in the search box, you will get about 345 hits. Last year I posted the address to a two man shop in ST Louis who can time your gears for you. It will cost $55 if you send them just the gears. I got the address from someone else's post. Their phone number is there also. I think his handle was "Zoey" and and he had put it somewhere in the left hand column.

I am going to have to do the same thing myself. I did the exact same thing and later I read in the manual that you need to mark the gears so that they came go back in exactly the same way. The P/S unit was off a tractor that had a cornpicker on it, so it must have worked prior to my disassembling it.
Good Luck

I always use my normal handle no matter what i have to say, I have bumped heads with people before and we get over it. just use your normal handel.

Jonny, I don't know what any of that has to do with anything, but you are wrong. Dial up service will have any one of several different IP addresses. Mine is dial up AOL and it will have 4 or 5 different IP addresses. You watch my post in the future and you will see that mine is different sometimes and the same as others who use dial up AOL service sometimes.

yes i know this georgeky..... but look at the time stamp and how late at night it was....if you nottice try has the same ip number on this post and it was hours apart. when he first posted this message his ip was the same as the one in my post within a short amount of time. aslo look at how diffrent his ip number changed. the night in question to have 2 diffrent people have the same ip that late at night and so close in time proves to me it was the same guy or at least the same computer.

Jonny, that still don't mean a thing. Look at my post in the last few days. I have 4 numbers that come up and it just depends on which line is available when I log on. It could be the same several times in a row or different. I signed off since my last post and still have the same number. It will be different after while. I would bet on it. I have posted many times with others having the same number show up in the same post. This is not a way of identifying anyone with dial up. Seems to me he ask a legitimate question whoever he is.
