I normally hang out on the N pages, but this Farmall C followed me home, actually it was delivered.
The serial number on the plate under the seat is 50855 with 1816 below that.I assume it is a 1950, but don't know what the 1816 means. It has white paint under the red, but I understand all Farmalls were primed with white. Could this be a demonstrator?

I agree with CNKS in that I do not think it was white primer. I have a 50 C, but not in the serial range of the demos and it never had any white primer anywhere I could ever find, and I have owned the tractor since it had original paint, and has had many scratches over the years. Careful though, as my dad thought ours might look good with a white grille so he painted the grille white when we repainted the tractor. We soon discovered how bad it looked and quickly repainted it back red over the white. This was probably around 1970. Obviously some might find the white and think it was a demo although not much paint is left on mine. On my todo list.

Those tractors, white or red, were painted with alkyd enamel which does not require primer (still best to use primer), so IH did not use primer. "Accepted" serial range for white C's is 47010-54411, or Jan, Feb, March 1950; yours is in that range. But, they may be a period when IH painted a group of tractors red in that time frame. You will find white paint inside the battery box, between the battery box and hyd reservoir, under the hood, valve cover and other places where the dealer did a lousy job covering the red.

Covering the white.

To the best of my understanding, there were no records of those painted or not painted white. There was supposed to be a policy that required dealers to repaint them red when they were sold to the user. Not all were repainted, and not all with white undercoat were demos. Sooo- what is a spray gun to do. The only way to be modestly sure would be to have some expensive tests done on the "for sure" original white from a seam or crack, to match out the chemistry for the original exterior white. JimN

Those numbers are not etched in stone, but if you look at a red over white C, in that serial range (I have one), and be sure the casting codes are in the right range -- unless someone faked it (if so they did a darn good job on mine) -- it is a no brainer. Mine had white paint, not primer (IH did NOT use primer) in all the unaccessible and accessible places. By the way, I do not like white, so I completely stripped my "valuable" C of all red and white paint, and repainted it red. There is simply too much hype about those tractors. It was probably only $5 worth of paint in those days, compared to the $300 worth I painted it with. IMO there is nothing special about them.

It could be a demo. The serial number is in the range I think.

Not sure on the potential for it being a demonstrator, but the other number is 1815, and is the max no-load RPMs for your engine.
