Hi, I am looking at buying an International 656 widefront gas. The tractor seems like a pretty solid tractor, and I am mechanically inclined but, I know very little about these models. Can you guys give me, in your opinion, the positives and negatives about these tractors in general. I apologize for not knowing the year and not much else about it. Thanks, Dave

if its an international (utility model with 30" rear tires and swept-back front axle), the front axle won't last too long if you put a loader on it. otherwise, the 656s are good tractors.

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. Does anybody have anything negative to say about the 656?
Thanks, Dave

Not me. They are a fine machine all the way around. The only thing that could have improved them would have been a hi and low range transmission.

Agree with Georgeky 100%. Have had two, both tricycle front, still have one. Found a 666 wide front back in the winter, bought it to pull a round baler. Back in the spring 666 pulled haybine and 656 stayed hooked to square baler all during hay season. Handy.

Dave, they are great mid size tractors. Good hay field tractors or tillage tractors for their size. Will pull a 4 bottom plow in most places. That gas engine will be a little harder on fuel than a diesel, but they start a lot easier in winter. Parts are available. I have a 666 diesel now which is a newer version of the 656 and it is a great 65 HP tractor. I had a 656 diesel years ago and it was also a very good tractor, just a little harder to start than my 666.
