Been cutting hay, got in tractor this morning to move to another field, turned cutter on and mowed a very small patch befor leaving field ( like a 10 feet section I had missed)
Roaded tractor about 2 miles to another field, turned pto on and nothing happened.
Took PTO shaft off and PTO will turn ( both 1000 and 540 shafts). I can turn cutter over by hand ( disc Cutter). If you hookup the shaft to the pto it will start and then stop, you can rev engine up and no dice.
Fluids are full, power sterring is good, remote hydraculics are working ok.
Is it the cluthes in the PTO pump or could it be the screen where fluid is sucked up into the pump? What type of job am I looking at?
Thanks

When was the last time the tractor had an overhaul. Just had my 1066 overhauled and when we pulled the wheel that turns the PTO it had worn all of the teeth down so low that it was about to "go". There is a wheel with teeth that the PTO shaft fits in; once these wear down or break enough off, the PTO stops turning. If all your other hydraulics work I would definitely look at the wheel/shaft; particularly because you can turn the PTO by hand!!

What i am thinking here is that the littel itty bity pin that hold the two halfs for the valve has broken . The valve is removed FROM THE BOTTOM plug on the lower left of the unit . Now that nut on top that the linkage goes into is alos what sets the clutch lock up pressure and one must reset pressure after you put it back together . Ya need a special fitting to go into the test port and a gauge that will read at least 600 lbs. i set PTO lock up pressure at 265-275 on 1066's . having a manual would be a big plus for one that has never got into a PTO before .

Sounds like the pump or intake to the PTO or the control valve has ceased functioning for what ever reason. Clear all debris from around the PTO valve linkage and try again. There is an intake screen that could clog, but not likely that quick. If clutches were holding for shaft operation before, probably not clutches. Then find a parts or service manual and look for a sheared key or drive to the pump for the PTO. Then find a steep bank, point the front end down hill, get a small tractor with loader to pull the PTO assembly. Pump will be part of that assembly. A good shop with hoist and drain the transmission fluid is preferred, but removal without draining is also possible provided nose is low enough for fluids to not flow through the PTO hole.
