I have heard there is an optional lower 1st gear for the farmall H. Does anyone know if this is true? If so where can you get this? I understand you have to replace both the first and second gear?

If the low-low H is built like a M, you will need a new countershaft with integral gear, and three more gears. The kit was sold as a package by IH. It'sll there in the parts book.

The parts are:

countershaft w/gear
second gear on countershaft
first gear on mainshaft
reverse idler gear

Believe I have a H with slow gears, according to the serial number. I'm willing to sell the entire tractor. It runs good. Let me know if anyone is interested?

Well I am more so looking for just the gears, not the whole tractor. If you would be willing to sell just the gear?

You will need the sliding gear and the countershaft gear (someone correct my terminology). Likely available only from salvage, unless you can find the tractor; they are not common. The speed of 2nd is not affected. IH only produced a high 4th and a low first, no other gears were affected. Come to think of it, I believe what you want is the low-reverse combination. Look up the part mumbers and diagram at www.caseih.com. That site is somewhat incomplete, but I think it will show that.

I would have to look at the serial number, but I am pretty sure I have the high 1st gear right now. It goes about 3.3 or so in 1st.

Yes there are low gears for them. We need the serial number suffix to know what you have now. Several different letters can mean low low gear. I don't know for sure, but they could be available new. They will be expensive though. Give Brad a call at 1-888-824-0544 and he can tell if they are available new.

I have heard of the lower gear in the late H's or super H's. I think the serial no. ends with XJ if it is a slow model, I'm not sure if it is XJ, but I think it is.

Well, I was told that it would be an X1A, in the newer H tractors, I would love to have an H with the Low Low, to go along with my X1F H, which has the high speed gears.

That is correct for just the low low gear. Several different letters could mean low low gear with other options. I have an M with X1F on it. It only has a high 4th gear for 7 MPH. The J would be 5000 foot pistons and high gears.
