it's a 1973 and i took the floor covers off to see what had it bound up,then ended up popping top off gear box.all i found was that it is bound up some where down at the bottom of a shaft.have not pulled side cover off yet as need to get hay raked.it will go forward fine and shift all gears forward just won"t go into reverse. any ideas as what has it bound up? thanks

If the problem is in the verticle shaft in the transmission, the most likely cause is the bottom of the fork is broken so that the shift collar is only being operated by the top of the fork. This causes the collar to stick on the gears rather than sliding smoothly.

thanks mr. owen for replying, it binds up down the vertical shaft that the has the splines on top of it. i tried to move the shaft and it will move about 1/4 inch. so its at the bottom of it where it is binding.i have not took the side plate off yet. still have some more hay to rake. but will take side plate off as soon as i get it raked thanks again

mr. owen you were right the reverse fork was broke right below the shaft. one of the pads fell out when i took the side plate off had to look for the rest of it. and found it behind the side plate that has a pump on it. didn't want that stuff moving around and get in ring gears in the rear end. thanks again
