This is a picture of my great great uncle Clarence on our family farm with his first tractor. Can anyone ID it for me? All I know is that the picture was taken in 1938. I'm no expert, so the best I could come up with is a Farmall Regular, but then what do I know? I thought it would be neat to acquire such a tractor in memory of Uncle Clarence. I know there are some experts out there who might know some of the subtle differences between those early models and years.

Uncle Clarence's Brother-in-law was an international dealer, would a Farmall have been sold through them? Sorry to be so ignorant about Farmalls, but my history has been mainly green (blame my father).

Athol Carr said: Looks like an early F-20. There appears to be a model decal (unreadable) above the FARMALL decal. It has the geared steering not the worm steering box so it is a very early F-20. The regular had a side mounted exhaust whereas this tractor has a vertical exhaust, again F-20. The Regular would not have had an oil filter before 1929. The magneto appears to be an E4A (with cover) while most F-20s from 1934 on would have had the later steering and an F-4 magneto

So, i'm reading that the F-20 came out in 1932, so that would make it a 32-33 if the 34 on had the f-4 magneto?

Didn't expect to be able to narrow it down so much just based on a 70 year old picture!

Thats what alot refer to as a "duckbill" F20. Frm the "road", you can tell a 20 from a Regualr by the steering gears, on a 20 they are enclosed, Regular has exposed gears. Nice Pic!

my apologies for the multiple posts. I'm having connectivity issues. Besides, I thought pHpBB usually is set for users to edit/delete their own posts unless someone has responded to the thread?

Thanks for sharing a great picture. About all I can add is it was called a duckbill model because of the steering gear shape. Early 30 es and looks to be F 20. I'm sure someone can post that knows the years duckbills were made.

isn't it?!?!?!

Not one of those barns is around anymore. I remember when the barn on the right burnt down accidentally.

I'm not sure, but I think that is a picture of ALL the power on the farm at the time. 4 horses and a tractor, wowee. look at those horses, you can tell they are for work and not riding!

Anyway, thanks for the information. I already have a 1948 Model JD model B that went from Uncle Clarence to my Grandfather and then to me, this would be cool to get ahold of too.
BTW, i've been seeing several pictures of the Regular and then the f20, they look so similar, how can you distinguish them? Can someone point me to a Farmall timeline with photos that talks about models and years produced?

Yes. Farmall tractors were made by International Harvester.

The tractor is an early F20 Farmall.
