I have the front bolster apart on my SH. I have ordered a rebuild kit from C&G. Should be here on Thur. The pivot shaft is pretty chewed up I am going to have it built up and turned down by a local Machine shop. Can anyone tell what the spec. are for the pivot shaft? The areas where the bushings and the bearing ride. Thanks. Brady

Brady - Unfortunately have no clue what the pivot shaft surface bearing OD's are supposed to be.

However I might suggest this: Install both new bushing shells into their bores in the stationary bolster casting. Then take ID measurements of the bushings as installed. Finally direct the machinist turn the pivot shaft bearing surface OD's 5 - 10 thousands LESS than the measured bushing ID's.

This way you should end up with nicely matched pivot shaft/bushings and thus a wobble-free front end.

As a machinist, I think .01 is a bit to sloppy. I would recommend abut .003 to .005.

Just my opinion, which could be in left field.
