Bought a Super A last week. It needs a grille and hood. Does anyone recommend a salvage yard that might have sheet metal for A?

A good metal shop can probably make you an exact replacement if you have the old grille and hood.

Hey buddy i would like to see the shop that would make a new grille. Hoods are 100.00 plus 15.00 shipping and are great. Grilles are different but can be repaired most of the time takes time but can be done.

OEM does have hoods new for 128 dollars. New complete grills are also available new from a different company for about 500. I may have a decent hood left over around here, but no good grill. If interested in the hood email me and I will send you a picture of it.

Don,

Where are you located?

I think I saw a grill in Myrtle Springs a couple of weeks ago. Its 50 miles east of Dallas on Hwy 64. I didnt see a hood but he might have one. I need to go there this week some time so I could check it out for you or give you their number and you could call.

I was at Sam Adams in Tatum, Texas last week but I dont remember a grill or hood there. Wouldnt hurt to call or email him just to check. He has lots of stuff and I might have over looked it.

OEM Tractor use to carry hoods if I remember for SA's. I dont have my book here to check right now but it might be more than you want to spend even if they did have it.

Send me an email and let me know where your at in Texas.

Don: I have my doubts if your going to find used sheet metal for a Super A. Just too many of them around with poor sheet metal. You might be lucky, but 9 times out of 10 it will require a lot of chasing around the country.

I know the new after market product seems expensive, but once you factor in looking and driving to find used, it wont seem so bad. I've had 6 of these tractor in the past 50 years. If I count the miles I've driven in the past 20 years looking for parts for these, the driving has been my single biggest expence. This is why I say my current SA, 130 and 140 plus 20 implements or attachments are worth $45,000. Actually a $45,000. investment.

I call it live and never learn, for example I've spent 8 months looking for used distributor drive gears. Based on what I've seen, I'm going to CaseIH this week and pay $165. for new gears. Maybe if I put enough new parts on the value will catch up with what I have invested.

I used one f the reproduction grill a few years ago when I rebuilt my Super A. Fortunately they were ONLY $400.00 then. It was real good quality, and much better than what I had. Be aware you will need to trim the reproduction grill where it meets the steering box for a correct it. It will bolt up if you don't, but it will tip forward at the bottom and the hood won't line up right.
