Hi,

I've recently bought a Farmall C srialnr. 73789 built in 1951. But I can't figure out what fuel it runs on. It has a manifold with a valve in it, wich is broken. The only new ones I can purchase are the ones without a valve, so I think it runs on kerosene (I can't get any kerosene around here). So can I make it run on gasoline? And can I replace the broken manifold with a new one without the valve (the type vor Gasoline tractors)? Can someone help me?

Easy way to tell: If it has spark plugs and a regular fuel tank, it will run just fine on plain old gasoline.

The only reason you'd run it on kerosene is as a novelty at tractor shows. It'd be a rare sight to see an old all-fuel tractor running on genuine kerosene or "distillate."

We had a 1950 C and it had only gasoline used it
and the same on a 10-20 McCormick-Deering. Gas was only about 14 cents a gallon and it contained lead and engines ran fine. I don't think that little starter tank on the 10-20 was ever used for
starting on gas and switching to kerosene. Hal

Its probably ran on gasoline since it was new. Many tractors made in the late 40's and early 50's never saw tractor fuel or kerosene. Run her on gas, she won't care. If the manifold doesn't leak, don't worry about it. If it needs a different one, put on one that's available, either salvage yard, after market or new IH, if you can find one that you don't have to pay an arm & a leg for - it won't care as long is it fits. The engine will run on regular gasoline - no problem. The duel fuel manifold used gasoline to start and warm the engine - then switch over to kerosene. My guess is that the kerosene function has not worked or been used in years.

Manifold replacement. The manifold from an A, B, C, Super A, Super C and 100 will fit.

All that is really needed to convert to gasoline is to pour gasoline in the tank they were designed to start and warm up on gasoline. The new manifold will work fine on gasoline bur not on distilate or kerosene. To get full benifit of gasoline you would need to raise compression but that is not nesaccery I have distilate A that has been running on gasoline for over 40 years with no modification and it still runs great.
