I don't know why IH calls it a 153. 3.375 inch bore, 4.25 stroke: 3.1416 x radius squared x stroke x 4 cyl = 152.085 cu in.

IH already had a 152 engine that had the same bore and stroke, the original H engine. The one in the 504 became a 153 to tell them apart.

That was my suspicion. IH is know for juggling numbers. The C221 in my 460 is really a 220.54, the place where I bought my engine kit lists the 221 as a 220.

Congradulations on getting your 504! I've owned mine since 1980, I'm the 2nd owner and knew the farmer who bought it new. The reason you can't find an engine rebuild kit for your engine is that it's a sleeveless motor. When Wellington Implement in Wellington, Ohio rebuilt my 504 engine they had to send the block to a machine shop and have it bored to true up the cylinders. That was 20 years ago and the little 504's still running strong! My daughter got 4th places in a pull earlier this year in the stock tractor 4500# AND 5500# classes! Manuals are available here at the YTMag Store. Enjoy! Don
