I posted a question on the JD site yesterday about a tach with problems. It is on a 1975 830 3 cylinder. I was wandering if you all have ever attempted to get one working that had not been and what would you recommend to do. JD wants 375.00 new and I have tried salvage in OK and KS with no luck yet. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Was a place in Cedar Rapids Ia that fixed them.

But I heard they might have closed up.

If you don't find a fix I can check it out for you.

Let me know.

Gary

I think Nick Barberi in New York rebuilds JD speed hour meters. You might post on the JD board again looking for info for this man.

I did a search on Google and found this

Link

Might be more that would be worth calling for pricing.

Mike,

Those things work on a clockspring much like a mechanical speedometer does.

Once in a great while I have taken the things apart and the "needle shaft" bearing area just needs cleaning. This would have a symptom of a good cable but yet the thing won't register.

Almost always tho, the tiny clockspring is either broken and/or deformed, which causes it to read "wrong" in some fashion.

In my opinion, your best bet is to just save yourself some grief, bite the bullet and get another unit.

Allan

Don't know, never had one in my hands. I don't imagine it is designed to be taken apart, but for sure it was in pieces before it was put together, so maybe there is a way?
