I bought a new set of wheel bearings for a Super M and found they don't even come close to fitting. Is it possible that I might have a front end from a 400? If so what size would the bearings be. My local dealer was less than helpful. They wouldn't order bearings for me on the chance they would fit. Has any one else had this problem? Could it be the model change over? I realy need a size on both the inner and outer bearing. thanks this is my most trustworthy tractor for hay cutting and light work.

The pedistalnumber looks like 6779DD ,the hub the bearings go into has a 8284DB IH number. thanks for all the help. too bad the main shops that sell bearings in this area have closed. The best place to get bearings was a bean combine building shop, but they closed. so did the shop that just sold bearings. yellow pages didn't help either. So I hope napa might but most of the napa's here are new with kid's with no farm background. Just heard of a old napa that might help.

If the lower bolster # is actualy 6719-DD and wheel is the # you posted, thats the correct parts to fit a SM.

Floyd: Eastsider is correct, there were two sizes. I suspect the heavier spindle with larger bearing came about as a result of incerased loader use in the 40s and 50s.

If the CaseIH partsman doesn't want to cooperate, go to a bearing store. Have exact measurments of splinles where bearing fit on and take along the old cones from the wheel. 9 tims out of 10, he'll have you out the door in 10 minutes with new bearings. Better still have the old bearings along with the cone. Even if he doesn't have them, my guess is he will have them in 24 hours. Either way I'll bet you'll have same quality bearings for a lot less money.

You shouldn"t have too much to worry about...there are two sizes of bearings that were used in the H/M series. My early ones use the smaller diameter ones, and those are probably the ones you have. I can"t give you the numbers, but go to the dealer and ask them to dig a little more...otherwise, call someone like Carter and Grunewald and they will fix you up....measure the old ones and give them the sizes.

Post the casting number of your pedestal, sometimes pedestals get replaced with the wrong one. I've had this happen twice.

Don't know but I bought a wide front end thinking it was for an H but it was for a C.I bought the wrong pile at an auction. Figure it was worth it as a junk man was going to scrap it. I'll find a buyer for it some day.

IH online parts catalog shows same bearings for Super M and 400 M has same cone number but different cup number. IH number for 400 and Super M is Cone and Cup ST780A, Cup ST882, Cone ST 781A and Cone and Cup ST770A, Cup ST 869, Cone ST 771A. Do not remember which is enter or outer. You can check numbers by going to online catalog and searching for Farmall Super M and Farmall 400.

Is this by chance an after-market wide-front?

If so, and you can figure out what it is, chances are somebody here can get you going again.

If not, and even if the numbers are worn or gone, any good shop can measure up your bearings and races and figure out what you need.

The M is a narrow front end and the 2 shops that do this went out of buisness I will try Napa and hope for the best.

I'd think a good counter man at NAPA could get a number off the old ones, or measure 'em up for a new set.
