When I changed the Hydralic oil the rear had three different types of plugs. Then, yesterday it had a flat tire on the front. Out of 6 lug bolts it had 4-7/8" and 2-13/16".Don't ya love it.Use what you have. Not what's right.

Farmerizing? Do not now if thats good or bad. However, when its 12:00 am in November and you are combining corn, and you break down you do not care what it looks like just that it works.

These farmers work their a$$ off day in and day out. Do you think they have time to run god knows how many miles into town to the dealer and get the right stuff? NO.

Besides, when they break down thet're usually in the fields and have to make do with what they got. I've yet to see someone break down in front of the tracor dealer. For some stupid reason it don't work that way. They use their tractors, they're not worried about keeping it in show condition. Before you start spouting off about farmers remember this: NO FARMERS, NO FOOD! Doug N

I do love it, living on the land and getting by.

Probably too many farmers on this forum to get any support for condemning practicality.

For instance, I would never remove the Ball jar my grandpa put on his old M (unless I break it on a branch). He also had it painted in about '57. There was an IH program where they would paint the tractor with a rebuild. They put SM pistons in it and I remember him saying they asked if he wanted SM decals since it was now a SM. He figured he might as well.

So now i have an M with SM decals. Not trying to cheat a buyer, but, you know, IH painted it that way and if I ever paint it it will have SM back on it, band brakes and all.

They were built for the farmer. The wheel didn't fall off did it?

I put a couple of Grandpa's nails back in for cotter pins when I restored his BN.

Of course, I was twelve or thirteen before I found out you could actually go out and buy new shiny nails. They were straight, too.

I have several things around here now that don't have the correct bolts in them. If it gets my junk to going again and saves down time and milage I am all for it. I try to keep a wide variety of bolts, nuts and washers on hand. Even keep the old tap and die set handy as well as a thread chaser to repair lot of bolts with. I believe in using everything until it is worn out and no good at all.

Having been raised on the farm with money being tight, I understand why things like this were done. If you need to get going to get a crop, or money is tight and possibly a dealer 50 to 100 miles away, you are not worried about some restorer bitching about what you did, you are concerned with getting your work down.
