I am restoring a farmall A, the steering wheel will turn 1/2 turn and the front end don't turn ( the center arm doesn't move). I have the front end off the tractor and have the gearbox apart, the sector gear, the worm gear and the brass bushing seem to be good. I have ordered a new oil seal and gasket, Can anyone give me some help as to how to tighten up the steering. Many thanks in advance

The key in the gear needs to be checked aloso make sure both bearings are good. Replace the seals and i would replace the bushings as you have it apart. Get new gaskets and fill with 90wt should be ready to go. You didnt say if the out-put shaft has a tapered end or a square one.

The most likely cause is that the arm is loose on the shaft. Some are square shafts with a clamp bolt thru the arm & some are a tapered shaft with a key & a nut on the end of the shaft.
Either way, tighten it up.
