It seems to be that the tappets are not down on the lobes of the cam.So I would attempt to get them into the prober position by using a magnet. If that would not work I would have to pull the head to gain access to get the lifters were they belong.Does this make sense? the head gasket should still be OK. There is (according to caseih parts layout, a lifter chamber cover on the side of the block. I could be wrong, but I would look there first. JimN

IHCM, There is a good probability that you accidentally pulled a lifter out of the bore when pulling pushrods. To get it back in will require serious fishing, or removal of the side plate (easiest) JimN

Are you sure it isn't the cam holding them up in the valve open position. All of them won't go down the same for the cam.

Ok, I just got all but one to go down. From the rear of the tractor, its the second one. It does not feel like its going down straight. It stays about 4" higher that the rest. I got the other one to go just by wigleing a little and they feel right in. I have one however that I just cant get to go.

Give us a little more detail. I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't go back in all of teh way..

It seams that when i pulled them out, the tappets came up as well and then fell back down. Is it possible they didnt get lined up again? You shouldnt have to push on them to get them back in should you? the 3 that seem to be good, went in easy that way.

Can you pull the side cover and see if that tappet
is cocked to one side and isn't sitting on the cam? Hal

I got the head back on, and wnt to put the push rods in the holes, and 3 seem to have went all the way in, and the rest of the rods stick out a ways. there is no way i can get the rocker arm assembly back on.
