Good thing I'm working on garden tractors, or I would probally be maimed by now-

Today----I was getting off my Wheelhorse, but my foot caught the worn out shifter, and it threw it in 3rd and my foot just happened to be next to the tire, and I ran it over. Thankfully that is a 250lb "tractor"

Last winter- I had gotten off the Wheelhorse, going to putt a wagon in the barn, and the ram (pete) was loose (we let them out when we can keep and eye on them) and he came over and started nibbling on the rubber ball on the shifter and put the tractor in 3rd ( with me a foot or so infront of it, but I had been watching him and dove out of the way. I wanted to knock him silly afterwards, but sheep eyes are like puppy eyes, even on a 160lb ram

Both of these would have been avoided had I been on a real tractor. Say an H. I find them easiest to come on fron the rear axle, holding onto the tire, there is no gearshift your foot could catch, and it would probally take alot to move that lever and puti it in gear. And sheep cant climb onto an H

when I was a kid I was mowing the lawn with our snapper comet. I went to get off the mower to pick up a big hard pig turd and caught my shirt on the gear shift and ran over my foot, choped 'er up pretty good. All that new safety stuff is a good deal.

Uh,just exactly why were you picking up a pig turd? I would have ran over. Made fertilizer.

Er?, I don"t want to embarrass you too badly, but you might have gotten a wake-up call. That is why they put parking brakes and kill switches on tractors. Please be careful and be well.

Dont worry

1) if you have the brake on, it'll still go
2) I diddnt want to restart it, because it was iffy at best

Then that is your fault for being careless.
