I had a chance to glance over a few of the posts on my problem.I talked with the IH salvage yard today. He has a diesel 806 with a strong D361 engine in it.This is what he suggessed was to buy the front half of the tractor(clutch housing forward)which includes fuel tank, framerails, radiator, axle, ect. All this for the sum of 2,500.00.I wont have a problem doing the work myself sense was a tractor mechanic by trade for 12 years.Like I stated before I love my 806 and dont want get rid of her.I have plenty of other tractors to work with, but this tractor is stationed at this farm for haying duties, feeding, and mowing, and ect.I have rebuilt the reared and replaced the TA.So everything else is in great shape on the tractor including new tires all around 5 years ago.I dont feel that I could replace the tractor for that amount of money. What do you guys thing? What would you do? Thanks alot John

Sounds like a winner to me. If the D361 is indeed in as good a shape as you say, $2500 for the entire front end of the tractor (flywheel forward?) is a steal.

I'd swap the hood, use the better of the two front ends, etc. of course.

The easiest is if you could just take the tractors apart at the top of the speed transmission cover. If you leave the hoods and everything bolted together you just support the steering and fuel tank and roll the rear with the clutch housing out from underneath. If you can start with both tractors side by side it is a fairly easy job with the right equipment.

Hi again, That sounds like a much more feasible project than I first thought. If you feel confident that is a good engine it would be hard to get a better deal than 2500. I am certain you will like the diesel, I have an 856 with 16,000 hrs and it is the last tractor I would part with. Good luck, Chuck

The engine in the tractor is a very worn out C301 gas engine. And with the prices for gas and its love for the stuff.I was wanting to replace it with a diesel.Sense I plan to have the old girl for another 25 years.I feel the switch will pay for itself over the years.

You couldn't buy another complete 806 for that price, and if you could chances are the engine would be worn.

If the diesel engine is good, sounds like the best way to go. Otherwise, I would guess that you'd have close to that sum in just a rebuild of the current tractor.

Once your done with your swap you can always sell off the remaining items and recoup some of your $$$ or you'll have a few "spares". I would think if you have a good crank and block somebody would want those from your gasser.
