In order to use my new engine stand I bought for my B farmall project (where I need to replace bearings in the transmission and any thing else), I see I need to pull the crank shaft pulley. I assume there is a threaded hole at the center so one can pull on a bolt. I not sure I am going to get front end off to inspect it tonight but would like to buy the bolt tomorrow when I go to town. Does anybody have an idea about the size of this bolt and if it is fine threaded? I picked up a new used torque tube since the original was brazed. So I need to take the engine off anyway while replacing the transmission bearings. Thanks for your help. Curt

Getting it back on can be as hard as taking it off. On my 100 I had a 10/1000th difference between the shaft and the pulley. That's too much to overcome with a little sandpaper and some grease. I put that sucker in the oven at 400 degrees for an hour and tapped it right on with a pipe and 3 lb hammer.

I would heat that damper pulley in an oven to about 250 degrees F prior to installing it. Don't tighten the bolts in the timing gear cover until you have the pulley on. Take a good look at the hub on the pulley for any wear from the old front seal. Here's what Bigdog made for pulling Cub pulleys. Hal

I don't know about the B, but the hole in the end of my '51 Super C is tapped ½" N.C. I used a piece of threaded rod in it to draw the pulley on to the shaft when re-assembling it. Sid.

Curt, this is what I made to remove pulley from the boy's SC. I used a porta power with my setup, but I loaned puller to a friend and he used a hydraulic jack. He had jack that would work laying on it's side. HTH

Curt,

The picture by red dave is what I've done to remove the pulley. I put an old socket in first for the puller to ride against. I think there is threads in the end of the crankshaft. There was on a cub, not sure about the B.

Dale, good to hear from you. The reverse electro plating worked well! I just got in from the shop and got it pulled. Next to take the engine off. Thanks all for the help again.

Seems like that was how I got the pulley back on, a fine threaded bolt screwed into the crank. Then you remove the bolt as it interfered with the hand crank.

I don't know what you are expecting to pull on, but this is a way to get the pulley off without breaking it. There are no threads in the end of the crankshaft.

Thanks for the reply, I made a u shaped cut-out out of a 1/2 inch steel plate to pull on. That bearing splitter would work better and I have thought about getting one but will try plate first. Again thanks for the reply.
