No, nobody passed or got hurt real bad or anything, except my heart. For many years now I have known the location of a somewhat famous tractor. Its seen in CH Wendals 150 Years OF IH, page 310, the one in Sandy Springs,SC running a saw mill. For years now I have been after the owner to sell it to me, or at the least park it in the shed it was parked next to. I found out last night it has been sold.He didnt recall the guys name, but thinks he was from around here. What upsets me the most is that he never once offered it to me, and always told me he wanted to restore it, or some other excuse for not selling it to me or anyone else who asked, but why now, Ill never know as I was too mad, or upset, or heartbroken to continue the conversation with the man.So guys, if you know someone in the area around the upstste of SC who just bought a Farmall F20 that had a tree grew up in front of the rear axle, please, please take care of it and dont part it out. I know it is in some what sad shape, but it deserves to be preserved.

John M.:
I know how you feel. I chased after a very nice, original 85 hp '39 Ford DeLuxe coupe for 6 1/2 years. Next thing I knew, a local punk had it. (His name was Lanse; No, I believe it was Lee.) Anyway, he wrecked it beyond repair within 3 months of the time he got it. Sad. mike durhan

I know the feeling John. For years this Garrett Twin-Drive sat outside the old Garrett dealer in Enumclaw, WA, just a few miles from me. Used to enjoy checking it out when I'd drive by. A few years back it got sold to someone in the midwest who's restored it. I thought it a shame that a tractor that had its roots out west should end up so far from home, but that's life. I should probably just be glad it didn't end up getting scrapped.

I have seen that thing on TV and would love to have one to play with myself. It has to be a brute.

John, funny thing...just a few weeks ago I was called to come quote an insulation job on an old house that was being restored. When I got there, it was the Moorehead place that the tractor you are talking about came from. The original throttle and spark rods for that tractor are still hanging up in the rafters of one of the barns. I told her of the picture in 150 YEARS, and she has a copy of the ORIGINAL photo, but didn't know it was published. I asked if they ever thought about buying back the tractor, and she said "no, we're trying to get rid of all this machinery, not bring any more in." She is donating a very good frick thresher to the Oconee Heritage Museum that she still has the original manual and receipts for. I walked through the barns with her, telling her what different things were, and she told me if I'd come back this fall and help them clean out the barns, she would give me anything they don't want, which she said won't be much. I even found some of the shanks and teeth from the sawmill in the picture.

I remember when my uncle bought it, but I was very young then, like 2 or 3, and I can remeber it being pulled over to the house my uncle had. I rember being 7 or 8 or so and playing on it and Pop jumping on my butt to get off of it.Two teenagers, which lives behind my uncle shot holes in the gas tank with a .22, and not long after that my uncle sold it to Mr Williams who put another tank, new tires, and a new radiator core on it(at least thats what Im told by another relative who is good friends with Mr Williams, who also told me it had been sold)I tried for years to get it, as you know, but he would not budge. I guess someone came along with the right amount of cash to get it.

I bought a small farm a few years ago. When I looked at it there was a JD model M sitting there with wheel weights all around and a sickle mower. When we wrote the contract for the farm I didn"t even think about including it in the deal. I called about it after the contract was signed and the owner said he gave it away. He did leave all of his junk though.

I was looking at a Huskee garden tractor "for sale" but when I made an offer, the guy said it wasnt for sale. A couple weeks later, I know that was a good thing because, when I get an H, I could use those $200 I still have!

I am pretty desprite for one, and have all summer, been doing odd jobs and growing produce so I can hopefully get one. How much is an engine rebuild kit for an H, I'm fairly certin I will need one when I find the H for me. I sort of know a Dean Alison who hauled a couple of garden tractors for me once. He is now where I moved from a few years back. I'm pretty sure this is the same dean, he always said he wanted a Super H like his Grandpa had.

Not the first or last time this will happen to someone. I tried to buy a '57 Chevy pickup about 12 years ago from a neighbor who has three of them parked side by side. I offered more than it was worth at the time... "Nope, I'm going to restore that one, put one of the other ones on a modern 4x4 frame, and use the third one for extra parts." Needless to say, they are all sitting right where they were 12 years ago, albeit a bit further in the ground.

Took me 5 years of patience to get my Dad's H back from the relative he sold it to. At least when he was ready to sell he called and gave me the first chance at it.
