our c-ih 685 was delivered today when no one was home. no manuals (even though we were promised them)! since it was a highway ditch mowing rig, looks like important decals got painted over in construction yellow, either initially or in the maintenance game. no idea on the shifting or anything like that. fortunately it looks like with bigger rear tires, hitch lift arms (lift arms and rockshaft are in place), and a 540 pto shaft, it can be made into a real farm tractor after all the brush is cut.

if anyone has some scans of the operator controls to help us get started i'd appreciate it until we get the manuals. definitely not a farmall in the traditional way!

i have an IT manual that inlcludes a 684, how close will this be? also my grandpa had a 454 or 464, which this drivetrain looks similar to, but i think the book went with the tractor on auction. unfortunately i never operated his either. now he's gone, so you guys are gonna take his place this time
thank you

A two speed power shift was an option on that tractor. If it has a toggle switch on the dash yours has it.

I don't know if all 685s had the newer type shifters or not, but if so one will be for high low and reverse just put it in gear and see what happens. The other will have 1 through 4 and be in a H pattern. If it has the older style it will have 1 through 4 starting with 1 at the top and then 234 on the way down. The other will have low down and reverse up and high you pull toward the seat and push all the way down.
