I have a farmall super c and I am wondering how to identify whether it has high altitude pistons or not. There are numbers on the block and i think they are the engine serial number. The # is
FCM HA-5 G 196572
That is how it looks on the block.

Thanks,
Casey

Like said below pull the plug and look in if it is a high alt. when that piston starts comming ou on comp. you'll see the step head of the piston LONG before it hits TDC as you keep cranking towards TDC that piston will be like the enegrgizer bunny it will keep going and going . Now if it is just a step head then it will not go why up into the head.

Simple Pull out a spark plug (any) and turn the engine over till it is near TDC. With a good little light and eyes you can look at the piston top. (or feel it with a wire). IF it is domed, it will be easy to detect If flat. it is not high compression. This will not tell you the altitude of the piston design, but the compression pressure (assuming good rings and valves) will be (usually) above 120 if medium dome pistons, and above 140 if high dome pistons (this also assumes your tractor is down in the less than 1000 ft elevation areas of the world). I would doubt if it has high altiude pistons unless it was resleeved with new pistons over the years. You can install 3.25" pistons with a new sleeve kit without any machining to the block. Hal
