There are MDs in Foley MN for sale (not mine, and no finder fee involved) JC equipment is the place, just east of Foley Farm Supply, 1 mile west of Foley on 23. I owned a MD and would always seek them out, they are cool units and the engines are special (good, and interesting). Every thing worth the effort takes the effort. JimN

georgeky,I think it would be too bad to clap out a tractor for a few minor things but then again ive never redone a ta as they are not very common around here although a farmer buddy of mine has a smta that i reworked the engine in. He shows it and pulls in 7500 and unlimited stock of which it aint but looks it.He aint lost yet this yr.He has all the super models ih had.

Hoss, I to would hate to do it, but it has the TA elimination kit in it and tranny driven PTO instead of IPTO. I use all my tractors that will run here on the farm and was looking at it from that stand point instead of a collector view. I do have a 400 rear end with IPTO and TA that I was thinking about just swapping around, so I could use the 450. I know the casting codes and serial suffix won't match up, but that really don't matter to me. I pull the tug pulls sometimes with my M, but want the 450 in the field. The fist time we pulled that old M which isn't near stock either, they told us M's didn't have enough power for that sled. We came in 2nd that night and they all wanted to know what we done to it. After changing the pitch on my drawbar so the front end would come off the ground we won 1st place a bunch of times after that.

I have stared at mine about a dozen times and I dont think I can do that. My brackets are within 1/8" the same on either side. Maybe I better get looking for a new drawbar assembly!

I had forgotten about that. I will try to send pics of mine tomorrow. Those brackets should be taller on one side than the other. Send me an email as I can't find your address.

Belive it or not(refer to previous posts) I had one and loved it but someone wanted it worse than me so down the road it went. When I got it she was in rough shape, tires gone, engine stuck beyond belief, never did get it freed up. I parted the engine out and cleaned up everything and started hunting.I found an old td6 crawler with junk final drives and woreout lags, give the guy 100bucks for moter new rings bearings andd gasket set from napa and I was in busines. If I recall I had about 1200 bucks in the whole rig including paint,(altho Idid really hesatate when buying the red paint). later Hoss

Hoss, my parts man tells me he can get a complete overhaul kit for around 2400 bucks. That doesn't include any machine shop work or a head if needed or the fuel system. My old 450 diesel runs good but needs a lot of other stuff. Clutch,TA,seals, tires, one rim, gauges and a few other things. I may just put the engine in another one, as it seems that may be cheaper than all these things.

They are good for anything that needs doing. It cost a lot of money to completly rebuild the engine and fuel system in one. Most other parts are common with the plain M. You could easily spend 4 or 5000 on the engine. Parts are available for them, but at a nice price. Lots of them also have cracked heads on them and I guess a good head may be the better part of a grand. Tires around 700 to 800. I think you would be better off finding a running unit.
