My mag was working good,I installed new points and condencer, and Ive got good fire and tractor runs good, however the mag wont cut off.I have cleaned, scraped, checked with conunity meter and every thing is grounding except the points.when i ground the points with a screw driver the mag will not fire which is proper.but the points wont ground by turning the point cover.Does the points have a grounding tab,or could they be after market, and not made right. This mag cut off and all i done was change the points and now it wont

If you aren't too concerned about "Correctness", attach a grounding wire to the coil inside the mag and run it out through a small hole in the back of the mag. Hook this wire to a one-wire on/off switch from a letter series farmall. That is an easy way to kill the engine.

Yes, Jimmy, the grounding tab is on the back side of the point spring. it is a heavier piec of flat metal. Compare the ones you took out. It contacts a peg inside when you rotate the housing. rotate it without the cover on and you will see what I mean.

Choke it to kill it. We did that for years.

I am not sure on this but it might lead you to the problem. Unhook the control rod and turn it the direction off is.If it shuts off, you may have to retime the mag right on the coupler.

Better reword the last post, un hook the rod and then Turn the points cover cap, the pot metal cap the rod hooks to, while the tractor is running.
