I was out mowing last night and my 300U started acting up. It runs good for about 10-15 minutes and then starts running irratic. If I pull the choke all the way out it starts to run good again. when I throttle it down with the choke out it kills and will not start again. If I take the choke off it starts right up again and will run again with choke off for 5-10 minutes and then run irratic again. Whats going on with it?

Sounds like you have a problem with fuel flow. I would check the flow of fuel by takeing out the drain plug in the bottom of the carb and make sure you have a good steady flow for 5 plus minutes, catch the gas so you can make sure it doesn't have dirt etc. in it. If you have a good flow there then check for a good spark.

Most likely you need to clean the sediment bowl, but the problem might also be in the screen in the fuel inlet fitting on the carburetor. Another possibility is a foreign object in the gas tank which occasionally finds its way over the fuel outlet, and restricts the flow of fuel. And last, a faulty ignition coil can cause the same exact symptoms.

Ive found the stock manifolds on the 300-350 have a tendancy to crack in places we cant see em. Ive had 3, 300's in the shop and 2 350's that had all cracked manifolds onthe intake side. All of em ran great till they warmed up then hard to start, misfired all the time, that any adjustment did not help. Replaced every one of them with a new manifold, and rebuilt the carb, and they run fine now. Could be whats happening here too? Chad
