cracking noise

My 460 has M&W 9 bolt hubs. When I go forward I hear this loud pop on one side? And then it does it again when I go in reverse. It sounds like it is coming from the right hub area. What would cause a hub to pop like this? The hub is tight. Could it be in the rear end?

From my experience the after market hubs do not fit the axle key ways tight enough and they will work just enough on the axle to make the poping sound. They will run a long time that way if you can put up with the noise. Just check the U bolts occasionally.

not sure about what type of rear this tractor has , but my 2500 same as the 574 has planetary gears in it,after well actually close to the end but during the dig of my new foundation I heard the same noise, I ended up eating the planetary gears and driveshaft,, hope its simpler than that, 1200.00 used parts and 1 week later had it back together, although mine had a backhoe attached which made it harder,, good luck pat,, hopefully its an easier and simpler fix,

My guess is loose rim bolts..and if they are loose, throw them away and get new ones, once they work loose they will never stay tight no matter how you torque them and how much Locktite you put on.

Bad axle bearing, most likely inner. Drain the tranny, and use one of those extendable pencil magnets. I'm betting you find some pretty heavy metal in there.

Have you checked the bolts that hold the rim to center dish?
