Hey Guys,
Im gonna drop the oil pan tonight on my farmall M, and install a new gasket. I think that I may may have some crud in the bottom of the pan so can I just power wash it out or is there a better way of getting it clean? One more question, what are you guys using to put on the gasket when you put on a new one? Any kind of sealant or grease? Thanks

Don't forget to check for that copper gasket on the drain plug. If it's missing that will leak like crazy. Available at your IH dealer. May as well sand blast, prime and paint it while it's off. Hard to do a real nice job standing on your head doing it while it's on.

While you have the pan off, be sure to check for cracks adjacent to the bolt holes where the leak you are going to stop is found. Put a new gasket on the Super M only to find the leak was worse. Got to looking & found a crack adjacent to a bolt hole. A little brazing and another new gasket solved the problem, wish I'd have looked a little before I put the first new gasket on. i use some kerosene and a stiff bristle brush. drop the pan, put the drain plug back in, add some kerosene and scrub. gets it good. diesel fuel works good too. i use silicone rtv sealant on the pan side of the gasket.
