My 2404 rear tires are 8.3-24. Frankly they look kind of silly. I have never replaced tractor tires with anything other than what was on them. Can anyone tell me what options I have with that size rim. Any suggestions as to what might look "right" with that size tractor and those rims? I am going to try to add a pic of the tire.

Note about the tire being on backwards. That tire was flipped out the other way when it had duals. The two tires on that side where new. Tires on the other side where junk. Splits etc. So...I will leave it like that until I decide what to do.

email me and i will send u a pic of another 2404 loboy. my 2404 has 12.4-24's on it, diamond tread. if u can find another set of wheels put duals on it. maybee u coul go to a 9.5 24? alittle bigger, but won't rob much power, might be availabe in turf tires only, i can look in my miller tire catalog for brand and price if u'd like. i can also look up in my 404-2404 parts book for rim sizes and part numbers if u'd like email me my adress is joel_kurowicki@yahoo.com

Provided the Lo Boy is geared different than the regular 2404, to account for the small tires, you can't go to the 2404 28" rears without messing up the ground speeds and power. If you went to 28's, in order to get the tractor level, you would have to change the front axle. Seems to me your choices are to get rims that will fit a 11.2-24 or 12.4-24 tire, which will change the ground speeds some or put duals on it. I think I saw a 2404 Lo Boy with duals several years ago. But, my opinion only, to make that tractor look better you need to lose the fenders.

Standard rear tires on the International 404 were 12.4 x 28 R-1. Standard tires on the International 2404 were 12.4 x 28 R-3 (grader tread), standard tires on the International 2404 Lo-Boy were 8.3 x 24 R-4 (diamond tread). Apparantly your 2404 is a I-2404 Lo-Boy. Other sizes were optional but I don't have a list of all available sizes. The standard front tires on the Lo-Boy were 5.90 x 15 I-1. Is that what yours has? Standard front on the I-404 were 5:50 x 16 F-1, and standard on the I-2404 were 5:50 x 16 I-1.

Fred,

Yours is a Farmall. His would have 24 or 28 inch wheels as it is a International.

You need 28 inch rims and 12.4 or 13.6x28 tires for it.

Thanks guys for the input. It is an International 2404. It came with duals when I got it. They make it to wide for what I use it for. My shop manual shows the same gears for the 404 and the 2404. The metal wheels to fit that tractor may be hard to find, note the wheels are a tight fit over the hub. Turf tires won't work as I use it to pull a disc and turning plow on a small truck garden. Let me also check with the Case IH dealer when I get over that way (Moulton Alabama) 100 miles round trip. Thanks for all your input. HughB

Hugh,

The 8.3 x 24 duals were available on the I-2404 Lo Boy but not on the I-2404 so yours must be a Lo-Boy. If you turn your tires around, (they are backwards in the picture), it will pull much better. Also, you can go one tire size larger with your same rims.

HughB, the CaseIH store will likely rob you blind on a set of new rims. Check with tire dealers that service farm tires, they ofte can get these or good farm supply stores carry them sometimes as well. A neighbor bought new ones for his 684(15x30 inch rims and had to give 800 dollars for one from IH. A buddy of mine sells the same rim for less than 250.00. Don't know what the 28's would cost, just shop around a little. Try salvage yards for good used ones.

Thanks George. I agree with you about not buying from the dealer. I am just thinking that the fellow who works there seems to know the old tractors. I thought I might pick his brain about what will fit. I am totally lost as to what tire will fit on what rim on the 2404. The present rim is a tight fit on the hub. I had to use a short piece of 4x4 to persuade the rim to come off the hub. I am assuming that any rim I get has to fit on the hub with very little clearance. I will also check locally with dealers around here. Thanks again. Hugh

HughB, most those wheels are common to most IH tractors that use this type wheels. I am almost certain that wheels from 240,300/350 or even another 404/504 will work as well as wheels from 24/44/54/74/84 series should fit. My 444 has the same looking hub as your tractor. Try those salvage yards as you will need the rims and center dish. No telling how high the center dish would be from IH. They are suppose to fit tightly on the hub. Good luck.
