my dad just bought an early merger 685 with a brush cutter mounted to the side of it. after all the brush gets cut, how much is involved in returning it to a "real" tractor? i have not seen the tractor yet, but it sounds like the cutter is driven from a pump where the pto should be. any info or warnings about the cutter unit is also appreciated.

it would have to be an ag tractor, since 685 does not show up on the case construction site, only the case ih site, right?

thanks

Karl, usually the biggest difference is the tire size. I would assume it has a PTO driven pump that can be removed. I know nothing about the mower. This tractor won't show up on the Case construction site because it is an most likely IH farm tractor. My old buddy Brad bought a 585 state tractor and other than the tires it was just like the 585 I use to have. Of course it had yellow paint on it instead of red. His also had a foot throttle and mine didn't.

i'm anxious for it to be delivered and then for the day i get to actually see it, hoping it wasn't a bad deal for him. only live 20 min away, but with work and a girlfriend, i don't even have time to eat some days.
