We have a 656 diesel utility that we could never get up to PTO rpm. I was looking at it yesterday and found that when you open the throttle linkage wide open you can still go to the pump and push the linkage a little further open. Is this correct? Is there a procedure for adjusting the throttle linkage? I was thinking maybe its set up that way so when you yank the throttle all the way open it doesnt hit the stop on the pump and potentially damage the pump after repeatedly doing this???

It is designed to always hit the stop. The throttle lever at the pump is attached to the throttle shaft with a spring assembly. You should adjust the throttle linkage so that at full throttle it moves the lever on the pump just a bit beyond the point where the high speed stop screw stops the shaft from moving any farther. The spring will then hold the throttle shaft in the high idle position.

If the throttle lever stays in the full throttle position you need to adjust the clevis on the rod that hooks to the injection pump . The lever on the injection pump should hit the stop bolt at full throttle and idle. If the throttle lever doesn't stay at full throttle there is a friction disc on throttle shaft that needs adjusted or replaced. You can call me at 260-623-3520 Jeff
