I recently bought a tractor that is an International. I thought that it was a W-6 but the ID says it is an I-6. Can someone give me some info on how to properly ID this tractor and maybe find out what year it is. I found it in a field and the person who sold it to me said that the engine was frozen. I took it home, put a rotor in the mag, installed the carb after soaking it in carb cleaner and it fired right up. I would like to restore it. It can go to work right now. If anyone can help i would appreciate it. Thanks

I have an I-6. Some differences between it and the W-6. Narrower rear wheel tread, different transmission gears (high speed 4th and low speed 1st). Third gear is about the same as 4th on a normal M transmission. It also may have solid cast front wheel hubs, or it may have the normal spoke type cast hubs. Rear hubs will be solid cast hubs. They are very heavy, about 3 inchis thick where the rim mounts to the hubs and thicker at the center. Various hubs and tires were available, but most I-6's came with 24 or 26 inch size tires on the rear I believe. Mine has 24 inch rears. (14.9x24 as I recall which would have been the old 13X24 size). I think most W-6 tractors had 30 inch tires on the back. Also there were other options such as hydraulic brakes and a brake on the clutch to stop the transmission when the clutch was disengaged for easier shifting. The drawbar arrangement was also different than the W-6, the normal one being for a pintle hook ring. There may be other variations. Mine has a home made drawbar, as it was used as a farm tractor and the one that came on it was not suitable for farm implements.

Wheels, tires, and drawbar will be different. It's possible that the fenders and seat may be different. I dunno. The front axle may be heavier to accommodate an industrial loader. Get the parts books for both the I-6 and W-6 and then you will know. It is possible that both tractors use the same book.

It is an industrial version of the W-6. You can click on serial numbers to the left of your screen and find the model year. That is if you know the serial number.
