Im repairing a bad rh axle bearing for my wives uncle on a 47 M. He needed a new axle so he got 1 from a salvage yard and they gave us the entire axle housing so we just replaced it all. After sealing it all up and preparing to put the wheel on Ive noticed the newly installed axle has only one keyway groove in it. It appears to me that the key on both the rim and the half moon piece is molded all as one. Can a guy find another half moon piece without a keyway or would it work to have this one machined out?

As Geo says. Also yes you can have that key way cut out and it will work just fine. BTDT when I put 38 inch rears on a 340 useing centers from an H which have the 2 keys and the 340 only one key. I just took a grinder and ground the one key off and put it on and it works just fine

Old , I went and looked at mine, and the 400 has one of each in it and the 350 and 450 both have two keyways in both axles. Maybe they went to one on the 460/560 and up. Is a 560 axle the same size as the 400/450? Never been around any of those new tractors.

Well I have never messed with a 400 or a 560 so I don't know. I know in the near future I will be working on /driveing a 450. I always get the fun of turning the wrenches for a friend. For some reason he never seems to learn how to do things on his own. Guess I have him spoiled. LOL

I have 2 or 3 buddies like that. One that I have known since the first grade can't remember his name most the time. We accuse him of having only one living brain cell left. No telling how many times I have shown him some things and it is a new game every time.

Old, I had on my mind to mention that, but forgot. After seeing I had I knew you would be along in a bit, since you just went through this. Getting a little shower here now.

Been sort of raining here on and off the last 2 days. If you can call it rain that is. Maybe we will get a 100th of and inch in 2 days if it keep up this way. Just enough that if you go out you get wet but not enough to do any good. I have been watering my garden every night for the last couple days

I was watering mine, but we got almost 4 inches one day last week. Just sprikling around here now. Not amounting to much.

It must be the wrong axle. All M's I have ever seen have two keys. Yes you can get the block from a 400 or 450 that will work as they have only the one key in those. I have a 400 that has one of each in it. I don't know why the change, but I prefer two. My 666 only has one and someone broke the keyway in it. I guess from plowing os something and running it loose.
