I have a 656 that leaks hydraulic fluid out of the back of the first lever by the seat. Have had it repaired??? twice. What do I need to do to fix this for good?

Tim,

Is it leaking out from around the hitch control lever or down at the remotes?

If it is at the hitch controls, the fastest, easiest way is to remove the seat, the square metal cover and then take out that reservoir standpipe to drop the oil level.

Will not affect operation in the least and will stop that weeping at the shaft. Don't know why IH thought that cavity had to always run "full to the brim" all the time anyway.

If the leak is at the remotes, sounds like some new o-rings are in order.

Sorry I didn't explain it well but it is leaking at the remote level out the back end. The new Orings don't seem to last over 6 months. I haven't done one myself yet but how difficult is this procedure and does something else need to be replaced along with the O-ring?

Have you been changing the detent actuating pin. It is about one inch long and has a tiny o-ring on it. This is almost always where the leak comes from. Part number is 396582R1. 66 series where updated to use a straight pin with a larger o-ring but you also have to change the piece it goes in to if you want to use that style.
