Here is the picture from Ytmag parts site Link
It>Link does show it coming down at an angle so the foot pedal comes in contact correctly. This is listed as for an Super M or MV. This is the one>Link
listed>Link for an M which will not work on mine. My serial number shows it being an M but could it be a Super? I suppose it is more likely someone may have changed the hardware sometime.

Ok, thanks to all. I may need to check the reason for the discrepancy and figure out what will work best.

Reguardless of how switch is operated the same starting switch was used for M and stage one SM by IH. There were more than one part # sold but they interchange. Stage 1 SM LP tractors did use a different switch. Think IH started the foot lever to operate starting switch when hydraulic seat attachments showed up. If your tractor uses 3 bolts to mount starter its a stage 2 SM or diesel or the clutch housing is changed. On this site switch # 1925781 as pictured mounts direct to starter like stage 2 SM and some other models.

My '53 SM has a handpull starter rod coming through the same plate as the choke rod and right above it.. The starter has a pivoting lever mounted above the starter push button... The rod attaches to this. Kinda handy in cold weather.. your hand is right at the choke when you pull the starter.. Tallperson

The second one, the one that does not work on yours fits perfectly on mine and is identical to the one it replaced. My M is a 1947. If yours is a Super it will have the prefix SM, not FBK. I do not have a Super. But, among other differences the choke rod attaches to the choke lever next to the block. On an M the choke rod attaches to the lever on the outside of the carb. Most of that type of parts are interchangeable.

I can recall at least three different configurations of starter switch set ups on M's. Never spent enough time around a Super M to know what they had. On the M's one was a straight rod thru the steering post activated with your foot. One was a bell crank and bracket also foot operated. No. 3 was a switch mounted up on the steering post, hand operated. If yours isn't like any of these, someone has shadetreed it. Model for M's on data plate is FBK I think. On Supers, it is FSM. LE
