I have a 48 Cub,with a magneto. This is my forth Farmall, but the first with a mag,so I'm unfimiliar with it.I pulled the rotor button off and the plate, then filed and gapped the points, but I can't get it timed.I'm to understand that the pinion that drives the rotor has a timing mark on it,and so does the rotor.Does this mean that when No 1 is at TDC,THAT THIS MARK ON THE ROTOR DRIVE SHOULD BE AT THE 12 o'clock position?

If I try timing it,all it will do is blow flame out the exhaust(way too late).Or not fire at all. This little tractor needs a resto, but it would run, albeit poorly due to stuck valves.

Any little bit of info would be helpful.Thanks.

Time it the same as a dist. TDC, rotor pointing to No. 1 terminal on the cap. just play with the gears on the back of the plate till you get it.

The gear on the magneto has a mark on the front of it. The gear on the front of the block has marks on the front side and back side. Line the mark on the front of the magneto to the marks on the BACK side of the one on the block with #1 TDC. I had the same problem last fall.
