My M will not lift my 1209 deere haybine, it lifted it slow before but now will not lift it at all. Is there a filter or screen that could be plugged up? The pump doesn't really sound any different than it did befor but now it just sems to have no lift power. All help is appreicated. Also what is the best way to go live hydraulics on an M....if there is a good way. Thanks JK

It should lift the disc with no problem. I think you may need a pump rebuild. Overhaul kits are available for them at IH.

My M struggles to lift my 9 ft NH haybine also. Those things lift hard and the hydraulics on an M just wasn't made for it. What weight oil do you have - I use 30 wt in mine and a mechanic once told me to put in 40 wt if the 30 didn't work.

Its not just the haybine it has trouble with, it also has trouble lifting my disc. It lifted the haybine OK (but slow) before but now it will only lift it a couple inches. Does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to switch to live hyd. Thanks JK

More then likely it is the pump and also the old M's just did not have enough pressure even with the updater relief valve installed your only talken at best 1000 lbs if the pump is good . On the Jd. haybines the cylinders are SMALL as when they built them they were made for the newer tractors with higher hyd pressure and them littel cylinder wrok fine on high pressure . My buddy has a 1219 and that pice of GREEN junk is a thorn in my side . This year my buddy wanted to mow hay with the old JUNKY 720 John Deere and guess what it will hardly lift the 1219 . It will not lift the 7000 Deere planter as that was his other great idea to plant with it just not enough Hyd pressure on the older tractors . Not if you had a New Holland haybine with and external cylinder let say a 3x 8 it would lift it just fine but when they build the hyd . cyl. into the machine there is just no hope other then either get a newer tractor with more modren hyd. system and a higher working pressure of switch colors on the haybine .One other thing that ya could do is step up to adding a live hyd.'s to the M and then you could up there pressure to around 1250-1450 . But here you will have to upgrade the cam gear and camshaft as not to have the nut work loose on the cam and shear the key.

Not familiar with your John Deere mower.

Isn't there a spring-loaded float adjustment for the header?

I can lift the header on my NH with one hand.

Allan

Allan, there is a spring on them on each side, but for some reason on the JD it has a break over point that is hard to over come with 750 lbs of pressure. Once it passes that point the old M will snatch it right up. A neighbor has a 9 foot NH not sure of model and my M will lift it with no problem at all. May be a difference in the cylinders.

That 1209 is overloading the system. I have a 1207 and my M won't hardly lift it and nothing is wrong with my hydraulics.
