Thanks for all the previous tips on what to try next for getting the Koyker loader to function. I have changed filter/fluid, over filled fluid, and operated steering and loader enough to purge air but it still only works like a loader should 10% of the time.

While reading over archives again and using different search text I came across some pretty old posts that reference diverting the high pressure flow PRIOR to the rear remote by installing a 'T' to supply the loader valve directly. In the examples in the archives the return fluid was sent to a connector that had been 'added' to the hydraulic filter cover (via welding or whatever method worked best). I'm about to that point for two reasons.

#1) I can't get it to work consistently as it was configured when I bought it which was simply two hoses connecting to the 'in' and 'out' on the loader's Cross valves to the tractors single rear remote.

#2) When I engage the rear remote to try to send fluid to the loader the engine lugs noticeably the whole time the valve is engaged. I just don't think that is healthy for the pump and some of the older posts indicated dealer's said you could ruin your pump this way?

This is going to be a cool and very useful tractor. I think it's almost there.

You're really swimming upstream here because that tractor's original hydraulic system was never designed to run a high capacity loader.

"IF" you absolutely have to have the tractor's hydraulic system run the loader, the original configuration is the correct way to do it.

However:

The original front pump in that tractor really isn't big enough to handle the load the loader has placed on it.

The pump only had something like 12 gallon per minute output (very early 656s only had a 9 gallon pump) in the first place and 3.5 gallons of that are siphoned off right off the bat by the tractor's priority valve for the power steering.

That leaves you only 8.5 gpm to run that big loader. Could be as little as 5.5 gallon per minute flow if your tractor is one of the first and has the original little pump.

It is really, really gonna be slow and sluggish. In this configuration, the tractor's hydraulic lever would has to be held "on" so that the control can be handled by your Cross valves.

You have two options. Either replace the front pump in the tractor with a 17 gpm pump and this will give you "margin-able" operation of the loader at 13.5 gallons.

Or, run the loader from a PTO pump with a separate tank for the loader oil. This will give you something in the neighborhood of 19 gpm for the loader.

Yes, the tractor will have a noticable "grunt" when operating the loader. Normal.

Two more thoughts. Could releif valve on cross valve be stuck or set too high? Pressure on 656 I think is 1000psi to 1500 psi. Disconect loader lift hoses from cross valve and hook direct to tractor remote and try that. Could be cross valve on loader is bad. Armand

Did it ever work right for brfore you bought it? It could that the lift cylinder hoses were crossed during asssembly or if you had hoses off you could have crossed them. This would make one cylinder want to go up and other cylinder go down at same time.B.T.D.T. Also try hooking loader to remote on diferent tractor before changing plumbing on your tractor. Also try hooking remote cylinderto your tractor and see will it lift a plow or disc. Armand
