Hi guys, I was wondering what a Farmall 656 diesel wide front is worth, the tractor has been setting in a garage for 15 years, ran when parked, the man says all it meeds is batteries, the ta, transmission, and motor are all good he says, has clamshell type fenders and three point hitch, any input is appreciated

Well actually it says International so that could be the reason why it has clam shell fenders

fm: Starting in 1968 all IH tractors were decaled International. Farmalls had the word Farmall in about 1" high letters on the model badge. Prior to 1968 Farmalls were decaled Farmall and the Utilities and Industrials were decaled International.

Clamshell fenders disappeared from all American built IH tractors over 40 hp in mid to late 1963. This is a full year before the 656 was introduced. If you have a 656, either Farmall or Utility, it came from the factory with flat top fenders. As I said in the earlier post, it's no problem to change them, clamshells are a direct bolt up. When I installed a cab on my 656 30 years ago, the flat top fenders I removed bolted right up to my 560.

I paid $3,000 for one this year (gas). Came with Koyker 500 loader. Course it needed a front tire, manifolds, muffler, drawbar, new seat, etc. but I thought the price was fair. Still fighting the loader. Not much seat time yet but it seems to be a real hot rod. I read every post in the archives about 656's before buying and the ONLY negative comments were re gas consumption. Seems like it would make a lot of people's top ten list for favorite tractor.

I had a neighbor that had a 656 D that pulled 4X14 inch plows. Looked like he plowed knee deep most the time. I remember it being hard to start, I guess the glow plugs didn't work, but it was a bear after you got it going. At that time it was likely the largest tractor around here.

fm: Are you sure this is a 656, they never came with clamshell fenders, flat tops only. Bear in mind clamshells would bolt right up if someone wished to change them.

It varies a lot depending on condition. Anywhere from 2 to 6000 dollars. Maybe a little more for a real good one.
