Pulled off the belt pully today and looked for the source of the noise. I think I may have the gear noise in the H figure out. The spacer in between the Main input gear bearings that was missing and is still missing because it wasn't there when I took it apart may be the culpret. with the tranny open I reached inside and pushed the gear rearward as I turned it and the noise quieted down. I wish I had something I could push the gear back with and run the engine to see if it works, but could end breaking something if it slipped, teeth both gear and mine! The new parts will be here tomorrow so I will tear into it more. We had a storm come through today and stop my progress. Big puddle under tractor again.

My Super M had slight noise when running in neutral but since everything else in transmission seemed OK I just ignored it. Went out one cold morning and started tractor and all kind of popping, knocking and grinding started, found out balls had came out of input shaft pilot bearing and cold thick oil picked them up carried them into gears and trashed the transmission. Quess the moral of this storyis a stich in time saves nine or however that old saying went.

That must be common with the H's, my H has some kinda gear noise coming from up there.

I think it is common. I was told by a guy who lives down the road (who worked for an IH dealer 40 years ago) they were putting in the front trans bearings a lot even back then. Might be a good idea to check your M while it is apart, by the way, how is that going?

The M is ready for the new parts as far as I know. And by golly your idea of the dremel and screwdriver with that sheard off bolt was perfect. Like it was meant to be. But I'm hopeing my parts will be here tomarrow and thats what I'll be doing unless I get called out for outages.

Bob, I'm following your progress as I'll have to tackle mine sooner or later. Want to wait until summer is over. Keep us posted. Thanks Jim F.
