Does anyone know where I can get a governor spring for my 42 H? Case IH wants $40.00 for that small spring. The dealer even thought that was crazy.

I looked that govener spring up on the online CIH parts site. Seems there are two part numbers for that spring. The old is 49407DBX that lists for $38. 357012R1 is also listed at $10. The two PN's sub for each other so that usally means they are the same part. I bought the $10 one this spring for my SH and it works fine. Its unusal that to identical parts would have such differant prices.

Hmmm... you might try another dealer. I just paid $6.95 for one on an H.

Slappy, are you sure you're talking about the governor spring and not the throttle spring. I can get one of those for $7.

Try this for high prices. IH dealer, thick manifold washers, mild steel. $6.93 ea. I took one to a local tool and die guy and he made me 18 for 30 bucks! Anyone need some?

Go to NAPA; they have a selection of springs and find the one that is similar to yours. If it is a bit shorter or stiffer than original, you will get more RPM's out of the H!!

If you think that is nuts, don't bother pricing a clutch joint ring, stamped steel with 4 holes and they want $169! and it is not gold plated even! I would look around for a good used spring. Or try Joes Farmall parts, he might have a new one reasonable. You have a better shot at finding one than I do finding a good used coupler ring.

just like my dad used to say..... try and make one!!! I know it is a very high price but it will last the rest of the life on the tractor(or 20 years) They get old and stretched if you have never put a new one on before you could be suprised on how much more it might rev and it should respond quicker..... 40 bucks aint that much i pay that for parts all the time.
