I pulled a H parts transmission out today and found a part that was not in my trans when I took it apart. There is supposeed to be a spacer between the bearings in the input shaft. It was left out in the past on mine so I didn't miss what wasn't there. Has anyone left that spacer out and had a whine in the trans because of that, or had it missing on one they worked on??

Never found one missing, I think if you put it togeather without a spacer when you tighten the bolt in center of front coupling it will put a preload on the ball bearings that they wern't designed for. On the other problem,is that the formed metal piece that goes between clutch shaft and transmission input shaft coupling that holes are to large? It could be worn out, but since the spacer was missing it makes me wonder if you have the correct bolts. The correct ones are bigger diameter on end toward head of bolt. Disreguard this if I'm refering to somthing different than what you mean.

Yep, you are talking about the coupler, I was refering to the input shaft with the 2 gears and has 2 bearings. The spacer goes between the bearings and looks like a cut off piece of pipe about an inch wide.

First part of my post was about the spacer. It goes between the front and rear bearing on transmission input shaft. With the spacer when you put the front yoke on input shaft and tighten the bolt that holds it on that in turn sandwiches the inside bearing races and spacer together in place between yoke and gear on shaft. This puts bearings in center of outside bearing race. Without spacer when yoke is tightend the inside races are trying to pull toward each other and out of line. May even pull input shaft foward a little.

OK I think I will pull off the belt pully first and see what is going on in there. You might be right about it pulling forward.
