I have a MD im sure your ALL aware of. well im going to fix it this week or try.....I know the front part of the tractor splits leaving the bolster radiator and grill all in tact. my question is there any tips in doing this? i have access to stands from a local i.h. guy that is really a heck of a nice guy. but i have seen some use wood palletts to hold up the tractor. Are there any tricks or any advice that you guys know of? i have the i.h. servise manul and it says to take out the radiator and other things,,,, but i would like to do what my i.h. guy suggested and remove the front. That way i will have alot of room to work. any help will be greatly appreacated, it has power steer and 9 speed and is a "t" 1950 model with the batery under the seat.

I'm adding that keeping the front intact is a good Idea with the necessity that it be kept vertical. Brackets mounted on the front sides of the bolster leading to a wide A shaped stand that cannot tip forward or back, left or right, will be fine. Putting pallets under things is nice for boxes, bad for things weighing with point loads of 4000 pounds or more. Use wooden hard wood blocks and support wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. from both side to side and front to back. JimN

If it has a NF, you have to be VERY careful, I darn near tipped a Super H because of my stupidity. Get the stands from your dealer. With stands it is fairly simple, particularly if they have wheels. I assume you know that the power steering is aftermarket, and that the seat is from a Stage 2 Super M.

All that holds the front bolster assy on the tractor is the four bolts on each side of the rails. The problem I have always had is that the rails are rusted to the front casting and you have to spread the rails to slide it out. Spreading means removing the two bolts that hold the support for the front of the MD engine and loosening the rear rail bolts. I always block up the tractor just behind the engine with wide blocks preferrably in a pyrimid shape from the floor so they don't tip over if the tractor bumped or if you have supports for splitting the tractor you can use them. I have my Farmall 350 diesel on blocks right now as I am working my way back on the restoration project. I have the front bolster all clean and rebuilt, engine rebuilt and ready to move to the TA.
