Hello Guys and Gals. I am sure this has been asked before but I could not find the answer in the archives. I have a "C" which has begun smoking grey a lot. Any ideas? Thanks.

If it is blue oil smoke and the tractor runs fine otherwise, try the valve guides. They get worn and leak oil into the combustion chamber where it is burned/blown out the exhaust. My A had the same issue.

The other guys have good points to check, but also check the oil level in the air cleaner and the type of oil in it. The level in my H was too high when I got it and made it smoke. SAE 30 wt is the grade it needs. Too thin gets sucked into the intake as does too high a level.

Ed: This may help. Black smoke = rich running; blue smoke = oil burning; white smoke = water in system somewhere. I never heard of gray smoke. Are you sure it's gray?

Your weather may be getting humid with lots of moisture in the air, and your machine may be making white smoke as a result...? After you've run it for a while, does the smoke go away? If so, I'd say it is just summer condensation. mike

Is it grey or white? if it has a shade of white to it check your water level as to make sure it is not water being burned. If it is burning oil it will burn blue....thus check the oil daily. if it is burning black it is running way to rich. you might have a combo going on...try turning the main metering valve in a half a turn at as time till she starts to studder and back off 1/2 turn to 5/8 turn. pull the plugs and let us know how each one looks..... that can tell alot. How is it running when it smokes does it run rough or miss? Does it clear up after a while? does it do it only after hot? does it do it only under load? we could use a little more info...jonnny2006
